Mythic Movement Workshops

Once we hear a story, we become stewards of it. We allow it to take up residence in our minds, hearts, and bodies and infuse each of us with unique wisdom that stems from the intersection between personal and mythic narrative. These experiential workshops are intended to provide a creative space for this process. We begin with a retelling of a focal myth, followed by a guided meditation practice that revisits the core themes and characters in the story. The meditation includes an accompanying soundscape and prompts participants to envision and re-author the story in their imaginations, experiencing the narrative through their choice of intuitive movement/dance, stillness, journaling, or a combination of modalities. (No movement experience is necessary). Participants may wish to bring a yoga mat and a journal, and wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothes to move in).

Community Symposia

Join us for an opportunity to discuss in depth and breadth a theme in the human experience - whether it be myth, love, friendship, ritual, or another aspect of life, we gather regularly at Wylde Works in Santa Barbara to engage in a symposium-style community discussion where all have the opportunity to share their perspectives, experiences, and philosophies over house-made kombucha!

Speaking and Collaborating

I have presented research at conferences including Film and History, the Classical Association, the Society for Classical Studies, and smaller workshops and symposia around the world. I have also run poetry-writing and mythic movement workshops at academic conferences, as I enjoy combining experiential and didactic modalities in public engagement in academic or community spaces.

In 2023 I will be presenting at the Association for the Study of Women in Mythology’s annual meeting, the Classical Association Conference, and will be keynote speaker for the Fates and Graces Mythologium.

If you have an idea for collaboration in hosting a myth-related community discussion or event, or would like to invite me to speak at your event, please use the contact form below. My specializations are: embodied storytelling; women in Greek tragedy; reception of Greco-Roman myth in modern contexts, especially novels, plays, and films, and the process of transmedial adaptation.
